BOOK LAUNCH BY THE RT. HON. PROF. AARON MICHAEL OQUAYE, SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT

The Speaker of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Michael Oquaye delivered the Annual Lecture of the University of Ghana Alumni Association (UGAA), in October 10th 2018, at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana. The lecture received massive endorsement from the general public and the Speaker has subsequently enhanced the lecture into a book which he launched on Wednesday, 11th March 2020, at Parliament House, Accra. The title of the book: STRENGTHENING DEMOCRACY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE IN CONTEMPORARY GHANA: SOME CHALLENGES.

 

The book launch was held at the foyer of the chamber block of Parliament House to a packed audience and was graced by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo as Chairperson, Hon. Joseph Osei- Owusu, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Yireh Chireh representing the minority in Parliament, massive representation of Honourable Members of Parliament, and Ag Clerk of Parliament. Other dignitaries included Dr. Ernest Addison, Governor of Bank of Ghana, Reverend Sam Korankye Ankrah, Apostle General of the Royal House Chapel International, Dr. Maame Adwoa Gyekye-Jandoh, Head of Political Science Department of UG, several lecturers of the University of Ghana, and the Council of the UGAA led by the Mr. Richard Okrah, the Council Chairman.

 

A goodwill message was delivered by Mr. Richard Okrah and the book was unveiled by Dr. (Mrs.) Sylvia Awo Mansah Boye, a Council Member of UGAA. It was reviewed by Dr. Maame Adwoa Gyekye-Jandoh and has 6 chapters, 2 appendices, notes and references in 125 pages in total.  

 

 

 

 

The Speaker decided to use the launch as a fundraising activity for the University of Ghana Alumni Association (UGAA). He therefore donated all proceeds from the book launch as his contribution towards the good work of the Alumni Association of his Alma Mater.  Mr. Kafui Dey, the auctioneer for the occasion, was able to raise a total of GH¢132,000 and $500. The monies raised would be used by the Alumni Association to promote its functions and projects.

 

 

 

The Rt. Hon. Speaker was presented with a pictorial album coverage of the lecture by the Mr. John Mbroh, Chairman of the Alumni Lecture Committee.

 . 

 

A Life Membership award was also presented to Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu by UG Alumni Council Chairman.  

 

At the function the Rt. Hon. Speaker presented awards of citation and cash prices to deserving members of the staff of Parliament House for their hard work and dedication.
