Mrs. Brenda Semevo Afari is a highly skilled company secretary, corporate governance practitioner, general legal counsel and management executive called to the Ghana Bar with 24 years post call experience. Between January 2008 and January 2025, she worked with Universal Merchant Bank Ltd. (UMB) and its subsidiaries/affiliates, the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) and Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) in various capacities including General Counsel, Legal Director and Corporate Governance Officer. She is currently at GIRSAL LTD. She has served on the boards of private and public sector entities and spear-headed key corporate governance transformations and she supported sub-regional agriculture research institutions in obtaining and administering multi-donor funded trust funds, bilateral loans and grants from financial institutions and international development organizations. Mrs. Afari is founder of BAS Consulting a full-service law firm, company secretarial and corporate governance consulting practice which was set up in 2005 and registered as law chambers in 2015. Brenda holds an LLM with Merit in Banking and Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), an LLB from the University of Ghana and GCE 'O' and 'A' Levels from Achimota School. She is a British Chevening Scholar and an awardee of a full honors academic scholarship by the LSE. She is a member of the Institute of Directors Ghana.
